Comprehensive Workshop  7 - Day workshop,

offered in 2010

Take both Encaustic Monotype and Beyond and Encaustic Painting/Collage to experience the full range of possibilities and… Jane Guthridge with her encaustic monotypes in Santa Fe

  1. More time to internalize what you are learning and to “settle-in”, feel   rested and stimulated.
  2. More likely to walk away with finished pieces.
  3. New and experienced encaustic artists are more likely to take their work to another level.
  4. Experienced encaustic artists find the Comprehensive Workshop both a refresher and a retreat. Many artists repeat these workshops yearly, doing both independent and group work.

Instructor Paula Roland  began teaching  encaustic in 1997, after many years as a professor of painting and drawing in universities and colleges. The spontaneous medium of encaustic, with its infinite possibilities, provided a new focus for her art and teaching. Many of the encaustic printmaking techniques were developed by Paula and are taught exclusively by her. Paula leads participants through a myriad of choices and options. She is the catalyst for exciting new possibilities in encaustic and her teaching provides the knowledge, skills, and confidence to continue after the workshop.

Paula has been an invited program participant at The National Encaustic Painting Conference 2007-2009, demonstrating encaustic monotypes. Her work is featured in the upcoming book, Encaustic & Beyond: A Guide to Creating Fine Art With Wax by Lissa Rankin (Sterling Publishers). Her works are also featured in The Art of Encaustic Painting: Contemporary Expression in the Ancient Medium of Pigmented Wax, by Joanne Mattera (Watson-Guptill, 2001); Embracing Encaustic by Linda Womack (2008), and Alexia Tala’s Installations and Experimental Printmaking (A & C Black, available 2009). Workshop Assistant, Ruth Gooch   Since 2007,

Ruth Gooch of San Clemente, California, has been the workshop registrar and Paula’s assistant during the workshops. Ruth’s work is included in the upcoming book, Encaustic & Beyond: A Guide to Creating Fine Art With Wax by Lissa Rankin (Sterling Publishers). Some of Ruth's works combine photography and encaustic and she recently completed a series using encaustic monotype and steel sculpture. In addition to regularly exhibiting and winning awards, Ruth will be a guest artist at The Quorum and the Cove art Galleries in Laguna Beach, CA.
