General Information About the Workshops in Santa
Fe and at Ghost Ranch:
Instruction takes place 9-5
daily with a long lunch break and after-hours access to the studio. Workshops consist of numerous
demonstrations and many examples of finished work to accompany each skill. Ample time is reserved
for hands-on skill development and guidance is given to help individuals
strategize and reach goals.
Both locations offer beautiful scenery, hiking trails,
and the opportunity for group sharing and networking. Rooms are available for single or double occupancy. Double occupancy
is recommended for economy (bring a friend or we will try to find you a
roommate—non-participants are welcome).The Santa Fe
workshops provide a city workshop with a country feel. They are held at the Immaculate
Heart of Mary (IHM) Retreat and Conference Center. The IHM
Center is on the historic East
side of Santa Fe, near the mountain
foothills and only one mile from Canyon Road
galleries, museums, and restaurants. In 2009, The Intermediate Workshop and Retreat will be held at the IHM.
The Ghost Ranch Conference Center
provides a rustic retreat in a magnificent setting. The Ranch is located in Abiquiu, NM,
one hour north of Santa Fe. Ghost
Ranch was the summer home and inspirational landscape of Georgia
O’Keeffe. The next workshops at Ghost Ranch are in 2009, by
application, for Advanced Seminar and Retreat.
The Immaculate
Heart of Mary Retreat and Conference Center

The Immaculate Heart of Mary
Retreat and Conference Center is the home of the renowned Santa Fe
Photo Workshops as well as a Carmelite Monastery. The IHM is nestled in the
foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and offers a quiet retreat
from the bustle of Santa Fe, yet
it is only minutes from the Plaza and Canyon Road.
Beautiful adobe walls, flower gardens, and shaded courtyards provide an
inspirational backdrop and opportunities for solitude or for sharing ideas
and networking. This is a city workshop with a country feel. Dining and
housing facilities offer on-campus convenience. The studio is available
for after-hours work. Rooms are simple but comfortable and very clean. Each
room has a private bathroom.
Double rooms are especially spacious, with the 2nd bed in its own
alcove. Rooms are located in the same building as the dining hall and studio.
Bed linens and towels are provided. There are no phones, TVs, or air
conditioning in these rooms, although most cell phones work here. All
breakfasts, lunches and one dinner (per workshop) are provided by a local
caterer. These gourmet meals are a highlight of
the workshops, with fresh produce and a choice of vegetarian or
non-vegetarian menu. For this workshop, residence is required at the IHM,
unless you have a home in Santa Fe.

Ghost
Ranch Conference
Center

Ghost Ranch
Conference Center: Ghost Ranch is one hour north of Santa Fe
and two hours north of Albuquerque,
in Abiquiu, NM.
Ghost Ranch was the summer home and inspirational landscape of Georgia
O’Keeffe. It is now a retreat center for the
Presbyterian Church, and the accommodations are “church camp” basic, no frills, but with magnificent
360 degree views. There are numerous hiking trails, a library,
museum, and SPA options. Rooms consist of two types: shared bath (bath shared between occupants in two
bedrooms) or private bath. A
limited number of rooms with private bath have been reserved, so apply early.
Linens and towels are provided. There is a short walk from the bedrooms to
our studio. At this rustic retreat,
there are no phones, TVs, or air conditioning in the rooms. Pay phones and
calling cards are available. Most cell phones do not work here. Rates include three balanced meals/day, served
cafeteria style, with choice of vegetarian or non-vegetarian menu. For these
workshops, we have large beautiful studios with outdoor seating and views.
Please take a virtual tour of
the accommodations and the Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu,
website. We recommend that you stay at Ghost Ranch for convenience and ability
to take advantage of evening studio work and sharing/networking. However,
participants may make their own arrangements to stay at the only nearby hotel
(15 miles), The Abiquiu Inn. There are B
&B’s in the area as well.

History
of Ghost Ranch and Georgia O’Keeffe
http://www.ghostranch.org/about/index.php. Pedernal,
the flat-topped mountain to the south, was probably her favorite subject.
"It's my private mountain," she frequently said. "God
told me if I painted it often enough I could have it."
